Dr. Michael Pegelow, DVM
Dr. Michael Pegelow graduated from the University of Florida in 1999 with a degree in Zoology with honors. In 2004 he completed his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree also at the University of Florida. He began practicing at Dixie Animal Hospital in 2004. Dr. Pegelow’s professional specialties include veterinary dermatology, dentistry, and internal medicine. When he is not caring for animals at the hospital, Dr. Pegelow enjoys spending as much time as possible with his wife, daughter, and son. His family also includes an adopted terrier mix named Chewie and a cat named Rocky.
Dr. Pegelow also runs the animal adoption program at Dixie Animal Hospital which has found homes for more than 135 cats and dogs since 2006!

Dr. Lara Sparks, DVM
Dr. Lara Sparks graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas in 1999 with a degree in Psychology and Natural Sciences with honors. In 2005 she completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at Louisiana State University. In 2006 she returned to her home town of Miami practicing for 11 years at Ponce Animal Clinic in Coral Gables. Her professional specialties include veterinary dermatology, dentistry, and internal medicine. In addition to caring for your animals her interests include golf, pilates, boot camp classes, and volunteer work with shelter pets and rescue organizations. Dr. Sparks grew up with and has personally owned many different breeds of dogs. She has a special affinity for Rottweilers and Shih Tzus.
Dr. Jesenia Carnero, DVM
Dr. Jesenia Carnero, who is fluent in Spanish, graduated from Florida International University in 2001 with a degree in Biology. In 2005 she completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at Ross University in St. Kitts & Nevis. She undertook further training with a clinical year at Louisiana State University in 2006. She also completed a rotating internship at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island from 2010 to 2011. Dr. Carnero has practiced in both New York and Miami and her specialties include veterinary neurology and emergency medicine. Her interests outside of work include marathon training and the sports scene in Miami including the Dolphins, Marlins, and Canes. She recently rescued a Malinois named Lex who will soon be trained in the K9 program as a bomb-sniffing K9.
